New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v6 running shoe review: A pair of comfortable running shoes that change your mind

—— From “dislike” to “willing to wear”, this pair of shoes changed my view

Initial impressions

At first, I didn’t have high expectations for New Balance running shoes. Especially when comparing the New Balance 880 to the Brooks Ghost, the latter always fits my foot shape and preference better. But after trying the Fresh Foam 1080v6 this time, my opinion has changed significantly. Its midsole cushioning technology reminds me of the pleasant experience brought by adidas Boost. After running more than 80 kilometers in it, I decided to share this real experience.

Who is this shoe for?

The Fresh Foam 1080v6 is for runners who value the feel of their foot and need long-lasting cushioning. If you’ve worn a Brooks Glycerin or Asics Nimbus and prefer the comfort and softness of the experience, this shoe might be for you. It’s priced around $150, which is comparable to similar daily training shoes.

Actual wearing experience

1. Surprisingly comfortable

Upper : Made of breathable mesh, with ample space in the forefoot, you won’t feel any pressure when wearing it.

Midsole : Fresh Foam extends from the heel to the forefoot, providing soft cushioning without collapse, and a stable running feel.

Heel difference : The 8mm design is suitable for most runners, not too extreme, and allows for a natural running posture.

2. Stable performance in detail design

The thickness of the tongue is moderate and will not press the instep.

The hexagonal pattern on the sole enhances flexibility and provides a natural transition across the foot.

Wear-resistant rubber is added to the heel to enhance service life, especially suitable for users who run a lot.

Areas for improvement

Lacing system : The original laces are slightly elastic, resulting in insufficient wrapping in the middle section, and the “runner’s knot” must be used to enhance locking.

Flexibility : Although the sole is designed to bend, it is still relatively stiff, which slightly restricts the natural movement of the sole of the foot.

Durability : Most outsoles are made of foam rubber, and for heavy runners, there is still room for improvement in wear resistance.

What kind of running is suitable?

Fresh Foam 1080v6 is not a lightweight racing shoe. Its weight and feel are more suitable for slow-paced, long-distance aerobic training. It does not pursue explosive power or speed performance, but puts a lot of effort into stability and cushioning. If you run a lot in a week, or want a pair of shoes that can be worn daily and can also be used for jogging, this pair of shoes would be a good choice.

Summarize

New Balance is gradually changing people’s stereotypes of the brand being “hard” and “not comfortable enough” through Fresh Foam technology. Although the 1080v6 is not a perfect running shoe, it is stable, soft and practical enough. If you have kept your distance from New Balance, you might as well start to get to know it again from this pair.

Suitable for the crowd:

For everyday runners who value cushioning protection

Middle and long distance runners who prefer a soft feel

Users who want to balance daily commuting and training

Not suitable for people:

Runners who pursue lightweight and speed performance

Flat-footed users who need a high-support structure

This pair of shoes made me realize that sometimes, looking at a brand from a different perspective can bring unexpected results.
